Rare Earth's version of Get Ready is better than The Temptations' version.

A lot of people like Eddie Kendricks' vocal and his pitch along with his vocal range since his voice goes up very high. That's because it could be a Miracles song as well since Smokey Robinson wrote it.

Ferris Beuller's version of Twist & Shout. :D Okay, what I mean is, while I don't believe I have ever heard the original version of Twist & Shout, I have a hard time believing that anyone could play and SING it better than The Beatles. Can you confirm that, John_8581?

Thank you, John Lennon's and the Beatles version is featured when Matthew Broderick sings it at the parade.

The Isley Brothers did the original "Twist and Shout" in 1961.

I'm sure this would have ended up here at some point but I prefer the cover version of this better than the original, even though I do like the original.

I will go with Hot Chocolates Emma covered By The Sisters Of Mercy. The Sisters do such a fantastic and different sounding version in their Shoegaze/Gothic kind of way

The Beatles wrote a ton of great songs. Here is another example:

Jeff Healey delivered a masterpiece

Here is the original, which, in comparison, sounds just lukewarm.

I like the cover "Shock The Monkey" by Coal Chamber featuring Ozzy better that Peter Gabriels version.

"Jumping Jack Flash" - Leon Russell's version of the Rolling Stones classic was outstanding at the Concert for Bangladesh.

Joe Cocker / Mad Dogs and Englishmen (Leon Russell, Chris Stainton, Carl Radle, Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner, Don Preston, Bobby Keys, Jim Horn and Jim Price) had some outstanding covers of these songs:

"The Letter" (The Box Tops), "Feelin' Alright" (Traffic) "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "With A Little Help From My Friends (The Beatles)

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
First one that immediately came to mind was "Mony, Mony" with Billy Idol >>>>>>>>> Tommy James

Billy Idol:

Tommy James and the Shondells:

One more is "You Can't Hurry Love" with the newer version better because as was the case with Mony, Mony - doing it at a faster beat made the song better

Had to research this one, I was sure it was a cover, did not know who first performed it:

The Nashville Teens - Tobacco Road

Yeah, not THAT much of true dirt and blues in there.

Here is a better version:

A tough one to decide.

The cover of "Gloria" by Jim Morrison and the Doors :)

The original written by Van Morrison and performed by his band Them. ;)

I think Van's throaty vocals make it a bit better than Jim's version.
